How to treat and adjust your diet while breastfeeding a colic baby:

1. Milk: Eliminate milk and its products from your diet for 7 to 10 days to see if your baby colic improves. Some of the foods made with milk include buttermilk, yogurt, margarine, casein, hydrolysates, lactalbumin, sour cream, whey, nougat, puddings made with milk, cream cheese, chocolate milk, strawberry milk, curds, instant mashed potatoes, coffee creamers, and white sauces. A protein found in cow's milk is a known trigger for colic in babies.

2. Cruciferous vegetables: Eliminate gas inducing vegetables from your diet such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, beans, brussel sprouts, onions, and hot peppers. Eat these vegetables in moderation if your baby has colic.

3. Eggs: Eliminate egg and its products for a week if your baby has colic. Sometimes eggs may irritate your baby's stomach. Some of the egg products include bavarian creams, breaded foods, cream pies, cream puffs, cake, pancakes, french toast, cookies, eggnog, bread, ice cream, pasta, doughnuts, egg rolls, egg noodles, hollandaise sauce, puddings, custard, marshmallows, mayonnaise, muffins, pretzels, tartar sauce, waffles, cream fillings, and creamy salad dressings.

3. Citrus fruits: Avoid citrus fruits such as lemon, oranges, pineapple and grapefruit. Citrus may cause allergic reaction in newborn babies.

4. Peanuts: Avoid peanuts and its products including chili, ground nuts, artificial nuts, marzipan, baked goods, candy, peanut butter, and mixed nuts.

5. Spicy foods: Spicy foods can be  difficult for the baby to digest. They may drink your milk just fine but get upset later on. Spicy foods can result in a baby having an upset stomach, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

6. Beverages: Try to avoid alcoholic beverages and caffeine products while breastfeeding. Both may cause colic in babies.

6. Other foods: Other foods to eat in moderation for colic babies include wheat, corn, garlic, apricots, melon, and prunes. These foods might cause allergic reactions in the baby.

Tips:

Omit one food at a time for 7 to 10 days and see your baby's reaction or improvement.

We gave our baby Infacol (simethicone) and it helped a lot! Simethicone works by causing the small gas bubbles to join together so that it is easier for the baby to expel the bigger bubble thus easing pressure and pain. Takes a couple of days to work but it will save your sanity!!!

Boil quite a bit of dill (fresh, frozen or dried) in water. Wait for the water to cool, strain to remove the dill and let the infant drink the water. It always works.
