I had a problem with fruit flies last fall when my mom gave me a bushel of apples and they ripened way too fast and I didn't know it. I had hundreds of fruit flies in my house. I wish I had your suggestions then! The kids and I took turns every day with the vaccum. I told the kids they had to get at least 50 a day and eventually (after about a week or more) we got rid of them...boy were they annoying!

Great suggestions I have used both methods. For the first one I would suggest plastic wrap as well and poke holes in so that the fruit flies get trapped. Great hub!
